Question
When a batter hits a ball and runs past 1st base and turns around to go back to 1st base does the defesive player have to tag the runner to be out are touch the base. This also is for second and 3rd base does the defesive player have to tag the runner or  touch the bag for their to be out and each base

Answer
Hi afuller,

1st base is different than 2nd or 3rd.  You can overrun 1st and turn right or left w/out liability to be put out unless you make a move toward 2nd.  In that case you must tag the b-r before they get back to 1st.

If you overrun 2nd or 3rd you must tag the runner before they get back to the base.
