Question
who first recorded hit 'lights on broadway' made famous by george benson

Answer
Do you mean Nights on Broadway? which was a hit for Candi Staton and written by the Bee Gees? But I suspect You mean 'On Broadway' 'They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway' which was written by Jerry Lieber & Mike Stoller & first recorded by The Drifters, and I know George did a version of that song. Make sure that if you by it on Cd its the original Atlantic recording (which will be licensed from warners, WSM, Atlantic or Rhino - they're all warner companies). If not ask to listen to it first as there's several awful re-recordings by ex Drifter Charlie Thomas claiming to be by the drifters. Anything licensed from K-Tel or Dominion entertainment is a re recording.
