Question
QUESTION: I got a computer from my friend and he never gave me any cd or anything with it and the computer was working fine until i had to reboot my windows because of a virus after that i found out that my sound card is not working its a built in sound card (C-media AC97 audio device) then i started having code 10 problem and then after i reinstall the audio device i started having code 39 problem.now i am tired of these things i just want to buy a new sound card which should be a good sound card with a woofers.so i just want to know if you can help me with the right sound card or i would be happier if you fix my sound card problem.

ANSWER: Ah, I would suggest looking at C-Media's website for an audio driver (http://www.cmedia.com.tw/). If that fails to work, or you want to upgrade, I'd suggest looking at one of these as a possible replacement, assuming your computer will support them:

QUESTION: Thanks bob.I went to their website and didnt find my sound card card but now i am not going to waste my time in that.i will just buy another sound card.i just want to ask you that if i buy a new sound card then do i also need a cd rom drive for something if i do then why?

Answer
Well do you have a CD-ROM drive? Generally they're reccomended so you can load the included driver CD, but if you're ok finding the drivers online (say you bought the Auzentech, you'd just go to the page I listed and locate the drivers from that product's support page) you should be fine without a CD-ROM drive. Note that I say *should*, not 100% gurantee, mostly because I've never had a striking desire to try running a system 100% without optoelectric media.
