Space Exploration - Moon Landing Hoax?

Expert: Rangutan - 1/7/2009

Question
Dear sir,

A Bulgarian friend of mine is convinced that the moon landing in 1969 was staged.  Could you please tell me:

a) Do you feel this was staged?

b) Why?

c) How does the decision by the Chinese to 'return' to the moon effect your opinion?

Thanks,

David

Answer
Hi David

There is a group that constantly tries to disprove the Moon landings. Yes, perhaps backup photography was made in a studio but the event did really happen on the Moon. The arguments are very well summarized at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_moon_landing_hoax_accusations

Every serious scientist, pilot, adventurer and 99.9% of the world accepts the Moon landings as fact, myself too:

1) It was a very serious political race to the Moon, the Russians followed radio and radar transmissions. They would never allow cheating, the evidence was enough for them!

2) Robots were not developed enough to be able to collect such diverse moon rocks and dust.

3) There were thousands of people involved. It would easily take just one person to blow a secret!

4) Time has proved the events

The fact that the Chinese and Indians have interest in the Moon is somewhat different, being for basic scientific expansion and possibly claiming territory on the moon, possibly mining the minerals there. For the USA and Europeans a moon base is planned as springboard to Mars.

Regards
Rudi
