Space Exploration - Even gravity can control Light?

Expert: Kenneth Renshaw - 10/26/2009

Question
Hi Sir,
I gone through your past Qustions and answers, on 7/17/2009 some questions asked.
(1. What is a Black Hole and in what circumstances a Black Hole is created?
1. A black hole is when a very large star collapses at the end of its life (after a supernova), and is so dense that the gravity won't even let light escape)

With in that you mentioned that, Gravity can control light.
If you dont mind can you please explain with Best example which is happening in earth regarding control of Light by Gravity.

Thanks N Regards,
Dinesh

Answer
Hi, thanks for writing.  Gravity can bend the path of light (even though it has no mass), as well as the path of an object with mass.  Light cannot escape a black hole, and a massive object like the Sun has been shown to change the apparent position of a star during a total solar eclipse.  This is since empty space itself is changed in the presence of mass.  Write anytime.
