Question My husband is from Puerto Rico and I am an American from North Carolina, and we live in southeast Florida, which is very expensive. He wants to move back to Puerto Rico and I would like to move back to North Carolina, but I am worried about the economy on the island and schools. I only have an associates and I feel I will only make half what I make here on the mainland. I am not sure if that will be enough to survive. Do you have advice for me?
Answer Andrea,
This is definitely an in-depth question that you should continue to research and discuss with friends or family in Puerto Rico who know your particular situation better.
I can tell you that in general terms the economy in Puerto Rico is as bad or worse than the economy in the United States at the moment. Also, depending on where you would live in Puerto Rico, cost of living can be similar to a medium-sized city in the United States. Finally, in my opinion, most jobs pay less than what they would in the US.
