Spanish & Hispanic Cuisine - chile peppers

Expert: Billy Mo - 9/24/2009

Question
Hi Billy Mo, I'm trying to make salsa for the first time. I chopped the  peppers and now I'm looking for the product that will get the chile pepper off of my hands. I've washed everything in Dawn dish soap but my hands are still burning. Any ideas???

Answer
Belle,

The most effective way is to use household bleach diluted one part bleach to five parts water.  It will chemically neutralize the capsicum. The result is salts that are easily washed away with standard soap and water.  And next time use latex gloves :).
