Spanish Language - Spanish grammar?

Expert: Emily - 10/8/2009

Question
Hi Emily. Spanish grammar is giving me a little headache. This is my problem :

1. English :
I send a letter to her.
which means :
I send it to her.
Can I say in Spanish? :
Se la mando.
Can I say also? :
Mandosela.
2. I need to send it (the letter) to her.
Can I say? :
Se la necesito a mandar.
Can I say also?
Necesito a mandarsela.
3. Why don't you send it (the letter) to her?
Can I say? :
Por que no mandasela? (using Usted.)
4. Please send it to her!
Can I say? :
Mandesela, por favor! (using Usted.)

Please explain. Thanks a lot.

Answer
1. I send a letter to her in spanish is Mando una carta a ella
I send it to her = Lo mando a ella
and 'mandosela' is not correct, that is in the form of a command (Send it to her!) but to write it correctly it is 'mandásela'

2. I need to send it (the letter) to her - Necesito mandarla a ella
Mandarsela again is in the form of a command so when you want to say i need to send it to her that is not the correct for. and Necesito a mandarsela is missing a key part. The sentence should end with 'a ella'. So to make this a correct phrase you need to say 'Necesito mandarsela a ella'

3. It would be better to say 'Por qué no lo manda a ella?'

4. Don't forget 'a ella' to specify 'to her'. Mandesela a ella, por favor.
