Spanish Language - subjunctive with imperative

Expert: Maria-Teresa Troelstrup - 9/22/2009

Question
how would you say in spanish.....he does not believe that Nicaragua would be rich if it distributed it's natural resources equally.
I don't need a translation necessarily, I am just wondering what form of the verbs "would be" and "distributed" to use. "el no cree que" suggests the subjunctive, but what do you do with the imperative that follows?
Thank you.
-Kalin

Answer
Hello Kalin, you would translate that sentence as follows:

"...el no cree que Nicaragua sería rica si ésta distribuyera sus recursos naturales equitativamente."

I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,

Maria-Teresa
