Experience I've been on Atkins since 2001 and I'm still going strong!
Education/Credentials Professionally, I have a Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, researched metabolism and endocrinology for four years, and am currently attending medical school.
Question I am considering going the Atkins diet soon. My doctor has prescribed two
medicines for me, for lowering my moderately elevated blood pressure and I
have been taking them for several years now. They are Hydrochlorothiazide,
25 mg per day and Lisinopril, 10 mg per day. My blood pressure is well
under control (110/80). Will either of these drugs interfere with going on the
Atkins die
Thanks, Dave?
Answer Dave,
Congrats on getting started on a new healthy lifestyle! Your medications will not interfere with the Atkins diet.
One caveat, however-after you have lost about 10% of your body weight (multiply your current weight by .9) you'll want to recheck your blood pressure, and recheck every so often afterwards. Weight loss from any cause frequently lowers your blood pressure, and you may find that you do not need both of your blood pressure medicines after losing weight.
Good luck!
