Question
on april 28th i am going in for acl reconstructive surgery. i have already put on some weight ever since this tear and dont want to put on anymore when i am immobile. what kind of diet should i go on or is there a good book to read on it?

r/ leif

Answer
Leif,
While you are recovering from surgery, your body needs extra protein to heal. YOu'll want to eat fewer calories than you did before, but a higher amount of protein. If you send me your height, weight, age, and how much mobility you'll have (total bed rest versus walking around with crutches) I can tell you how many calories to eat daily to avoid gaining weight.
It's inevitable, though, that you'll lose some muscle mass and it will be replaced with some fat. Once you're able to exercise again, that will reverse.
Melissa
