Special Diets - question

Expert: Melissa Anderson - 4/22/2009

Question
hello, I have a question regarding the atkins diet. It says to stay on phase 1 for 2 weeks but if I go a bit longer than that, will I stil lose lbs? I exercise everyother day and such too.  Just wondering thanks!

Answer
Yes, most people will lose weight a little faster on phase 1 and there's absolutely no problem with that. My one recommendation is that if you're going to stay on it for a while, double check your fiber intake. Most Atkins products and similar low-carb products have a pretty good dose of fiber, as do the phase 1 approved vegetables like broccoli, green beans, and cauliflower-just make sure you're eating enough to get at least 20 grams of fiber daily. If you don't like cauliflower, try steaming it until it's very soft, mashing it with a potato masher, and mixing in some shredded cheddar and sour cream. It's even better than cheesy mashed potatoes.
