Spices & Seasonings/poppy seeds

Question
I have some poppy seeds that expired 2/2008. It is now 12/2008. I put them in my chicken casserole before checking the exp date. will it be ok to eat? Or do I need to toss? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Shelley,

Go ahead and eat them. They aren't bad for you to eat in a way that will make you sick. They are just not as tasty as they were before the expiration date. They aren't going to flavor the casserole the way they should so it may be a bit bland!

Get some new ones for your next recipe so you can enjoy the flavor. ;-)
