ANSWER: Hi aurfan,

Absolutley NO surgery, discontinue the meds, get an MRI and find a D.C. that does flexion distraction therapy or spinal decompression. There are no side effects and it's 95% effective. The course you are on now will not correct the problem, only mask the symptoms. If you don't have access to this type of care in London, then your choices are limited. I believe that not be the case, you may have to call around a bit.

Hope this helps,

ANSWER: Get the MRI, continue stretching, minimize exercising and get some flexion/distraction therapy. It may be difficult to find in London, I don't know, but it's worth trying. Your almost home, keep doing what I recommended and your stamina will return. Get a CBC and Differential (blood chemistry) to rule out anemia. Only do what your body can tolerate, don't push it! You will only regress. Take it slow, especially if you are not getting decompression therapy.

QUESTION: hi Dr. Tim,
thanks for your kindness.
i have tried asking my doctor for MRI but according to them there is no need at this stage for an MRI.so they did not refers me for MRI at the moment.
i am not taking any medicines.
i am doing regulary massage on my buttock and its really working and also trying to put ice on it.
i still have little continous pain in my left leg lower part.
infact i dont have much pain in leg. some time haviing shooting pain.
the only thing worries me is when i stand up or walk i feel BURNING pain in my lower back.then i have to take some rest by sitting.
at that time when i start rubbing my buttock the pain get reduced.i am really fedup of this pain.

in your last reply you said minimize exercise but keep strecting!!!
want to ask exercising for this pain is related to stretching the leg. so what should i do?

my sciatica pian started on march 15,2007
i am 34 years w/ normal build, weight 60kg.height 5.8''
should i keep my leg straight all the time?
should i go for walk even if i know it will result burning pain in the lower back?

hope you can tell me in detail about my sciatica pain.
thanks in advance

ANSWER: Hi aufran,

You shouldn't be "straightening" your leg while on your back and elevating it under any circumstances. This will only force the sciatic nerve against the disc, while  increasing your discomfort. I am glad you are feeling better.

Standing will bring out the worst your back has to offer since this puts the most amount of stress on the low back next to sitting. Just going from standing to sitting probably feels good, but don't get into the false sense of security that sitting is doing you anygood. Continue icing it 3x/day for 15 minutes with the above protocols already being received.

The MRI is not that important at this stage since you are responding to care.

P.S. Why did you give me the worst rating I ever received? You gave me a 5 for timeliness a 6 for knowledge and a 5 for clarity.

I would very much appreciate that you change the ratings since I was neither late, nor anything else less than appropriate.
You can go back and rate each and everyone of my repossess, remember, this is a volunteer site, our time is donated to help others.

Sincerely
Dr. Timothy Durnin

If your not going to give all 10's than don'y rate someone unless you want to be malevolent.

ANSWER: Hi aurfan,

Did the doctor rule out deep vein thrombosis, you had a clot in your calf, this can be very dangerous. You won't get cured by taking meds, they only mask symptoms, you need this..........

Find a doctor certified near you and let me know how it goes.

Answer
Hi Aurfan,

I would ask to be put on a waiting list, someone always cancels. A D.O. can help if he has F/D tables, ask and see. I would see a D.O. anyway to make sure you are progressing normally. D.O.'s are specifically more trained than M.D.'s for these conditions, it sure wouldn't hurt to make an appointment, it beats waiting until October.

Good Luck!
Dr. T
