About Christy A. Smith
Expertise
I can answer almost anything about the band and all of its many members. I know more about Tim and Neil Finn than the other members. I have constructed a time-line that outlines every important event throughout Split Enz / Finn brothers history. I know the lyrics to virtually every song recorded by Split Enz or the Finn brothers. I have met the Finn brothers more than once, as well as Paul Hester and Nick Seymour. I lived in Australia close to where Crowded House members formerly lived.

Experience
I am a musician and have met some of the members of this band more than once. I have constructed a time line that outlines important events for this band. I have recorded lyrics for almost all of their songs and have a discography on file. I own everything they have ever released.

Question
hi i'v been a split endz fan for the past 3yrs and i know im a bit late [17yrs]...
but i was just wondering why did they change there band to crowded house??whats the difference?

Answer
Hi, Jessica-

It's never too late to be a Split Enz fan!  Welcome to the club!

Crowded House and Split Enz are actually two entirely different groups.  Split Enz was founded by Tim Finn and Phil Judd in the 1970s in New Zealand.  There were many changes in the line up of the band, one change being the addition of Tim's younger brother, Neil Finn.

When Tim Finn decided to quit Split Enz for a solo career, Neil took over as leader of the band.  Split Enz released one album after Tim left (See Ya Round) when Neil decided to dissolve the band for good.

After Split Enz... well... split, Neil formed a new band that was eventually called Crowded House.  The former drummer for CH (the late Paul Hester) was also very briefly in Split Enz.

Though the bands are very closely tied and Tim and Neil Finn were both heavily involved in each band, they are indeed separate entities and should be treated as such.

If you desire a little background info on SE, read some of my previously answered questions here.  The Frenz of the Enz website is also rife with info.

I'd be happy to answer any other questions you have.  Take care!
