Sports Medicine - Foot frustration

Expert: Bryan Ruchin, PT, DPT, MSPT - 6/9/2009

Question
I was playing soccer and accidently kicked the bottom of another players studs with the top of my foot, toes pointing down really really hard. This was 3 months ago and I'm still struggling with it. X rays at 7 wks showed no fracture and was told nothing else could be done. There is a big bony lump sticking out of the top of my midfoot area and its still swollen and painful. One physio stated he wouldn't touch it as looked broken another is not sure what it could be. Surely I cant be the first person in the world to have this injury whatever it is but im sure it should be improving by now after 3 months. Any ideas or advice would be gratefully accepted.
Many Thanks  Claire

Answer
Wow,

Difficult one. If it is not broken, maybe an MRI is needed to rule out stress fracture.  these are not always seen on xrays.  you could have a hematoma as well causing the pain and pressure, but it is a weird spot for a hematoma.

I am sorry i cannot be of much more help and sorry for the delay in my response to you.

Bryan
