Sports Medicine - Quad

Expert: Bryan Ruchin, PT, DPT, MSPT - 9/2/2009

Question
Hi, i was playing slow pitch softball, and was running to 2nd base when i rounded, i felt a snap in my right quad (6 inches from my hip)...i was wondering if its strained, torn etc. and would RICE be the best way to fix it.

prior to this injury, about 6 weeks i ago, it was tender

Answer
rice is good.  2-3 days after injury, start gentle stretching.  GEntle, no pain, just gentle stretching.  gentle mobility should help it.  you could have strained it, or partially torn it, but without MRI, we will not know.  RICE is teh best, try PT if that does not help.
