Sports Medicine/Ankle or foot pain

QUESTION: I am not sure how to explain this but I will do the best that I can.....

I have pain right under my ankle bone when I move my foot in either direction.  It is right in between the ankle and the ligament that goes to the foot if that makes any sense.  What could be the problem?  I have been having this pain for more than 2 months already.....

To me it feels like a ligament or a nerve but im not a doctor....

ANSWER: Hi Charles, without your age, history of injury, etc., we're really guessing. Sounds like posterior tibial tendon problem, but the best advice would be to see a podiatrist or your Dr. & get evaluated to get diagnosis. Activity level is another question mark. If no medical concerns, stomach, ulcers, allergies to ibuprophen, you might try 2pills 2-3/day after meals for 5-10 days as antiinflammatory along with no "extra activities"like running etc & see how it responds. Question remains-- strain?, tendonitis?... What is it?-- best to be examined.. Hope this helps & it will if you follow through.  Good luck, Dr. Bob Weil

QUESTION: Im 33 years old.  I have never had any type of injury to my feet.

My activity level is pretty low actually being the fact that I was hurt at work and given restrictions for another condition.

Same advice Charles, plus make sure you're not in worn out, non supportive shoes, & get eval. Foot mechanics, like flat feet or high arches could be related. Often, physical therapy & orthotics are helpful... Do the ibuprophen & get checked.. Dr. Weil
