Sports Medicine/Wrist Pain

Question
It is on the pinky finger side of my right wrist.  I just started shooting again when it happened.  I hadn't shot for almost 3 or 4 mounths because of school and other things i had going on.  Last summer I shot a lot though and I plan to this summer.  The pain had gone away yesterday but today I went to play tennis with my older sister and it started to hurt again.  When I was punching the punching bag I was not in a full fist but more of a semi fist "my fingers were a more bent then my plam was.  Yes the stick hit the platform I was shooting slap shots.
         Thanks again

I am a hockey player.  I am right handed.  While shooting pucks of a cement plat form with a metel stick I suddenly developed wrist pain.  At the time I thought I was on the right side of my right hand but when I was serching for the presure point I found it was on the right hand side of my right wrist.  The hand still functions regularly.  There is no swelling and I am not showing signs of a fever.  At first I felt the pain for about an hour, now it only hurts when I move my hand in a fast swinging motion, when it comes in contact at a good speed straight on with something (in my case a punching bag,) and when I flex it up and down.  In a sports medicine book it says I eighter have just over worked it or I have a form of arthrides.  It said that I should keep it in a splint.  I think this is a little extreme so I am getting a second opion before taking a any action.
Oh I woke up with numb hand this morning but I havn't felt any sudden and random pain.
         Thank you for your time,

Tyler-
Hey!  I just need you to clarify for me- when u say the right side of your right hand-do you mean the thumb side or the pinky finger side?  If it is on your thumb side...TRY this for me & tell me if it bothers you...-open your hand real wide-On your thumb side down near your wrist- there is an indentation- push on this area with your other thumb-does this hurt?  When you were taking some shots on the cement platform- did you hit the platform with the stick?  HOw many shots were you taking (were you taking more shots than normal?)  When you hit the punching bag- is your hand in a fist?  ( Some of the questions may seem trivial, but its easier to help you when I have some specifics)   I'll try & get back to you asap-  Krista

--Taylor -( sorry I called you tyler before, my mistake) :-)

so your wrist... becuase the pain really only occurs with movement, it sounds to me that you may just have overdone it the first time you out shooting around. Its possible there is a little tendinitis (inflammation of the tendons) which you normally can't see- My suggestions would be to 1) stretch your wrist extensor & flexor muscles- you can do this by-with palm down bring your hand back up toward your elbow & then bring your down the opposite direction- you can use your left to pull it in either direction.  2) Rest it 3) after using it & it starts to hurt put some ice on it- this helps to decrease your pain 4)try doing some wrist curls (with light weights to start) to strengthen up those muscles  5) If you are not seeing any improvement then try the keeping it wrap in an ace wrap/splint and/or see the MD
         Have a good one!  Krista
