About Jon Anderson
Expertise Please note: I will answer questions regarding value of cards. I cannot make this a trading card "price guide lookup service" as that would not be fair or ethical in regards to the trading card pricing magazines. When asking about specific cards, please include the name of the card company, year, and card # if possible.
I can answer questions about:
Baseball cards (1970's to present)
Basketball cards (1980's to present)
Football cards (1980's to present)
Nascar racing cards (1980's to present)
Sports memorabilia in the 4 areas listed above.
Experience I have collected, researched, and studied sports cards and memorabilia for 18 years. I have a great wealth of knowledge in this area, and I am very familiar with the current market and industry trends.

Expert: Jon Anderson - 11/7/2009
Question
QUESTION: I just recently purchased a lot of baseball cards at a garage sale and in the mix was a framed 1934 goudey lou gehrig #61 card. i am having a hard time determining whether or not the card is a reprint. Can you offer any advice. I will send a scan if needed. Thanks so much.

ANSWER: Wow! I will need to see a scan of the back of the card before I can give my full opinion.
Just to get some background info, were the rest of the cards in the lot older (30'-60's)?

QUESTION: no and that is why i am skeptical. there were only 2 goudeys that were framed. the other card was with a gehrig '33 goudey reprint, but that card specifically says that it IS a reprint where this one does NOT. were there reprints made of the '34 goudeys? i can not find any information on that. i will attach a picture of the back but it is definitely not as clean as the front. thanks for the help thus far and just let me know if i can be of more assistance. much appreciated.
Answer There are (very cheap) reprints made of this card. The link below is where I found the reprint. Notice that the reprint has wide white borders, and faded color as compared to your card. I also found several original #61 Gerhig cards and they look like what you have. I think that it would probably be worth investing $15-$20 to have the card graded. I realize that the card is creased and will probably get a lower grade, but it would guarantee authenticity. In my opinion, your card appears original as compared to the graded card pictures.
Completed sales on EBay show a PSA 1 sold for $255 and a PSA 2 fetched $621.
