QUESTION: My grandfather left me some things and among them was this baseball card in near mint condition. A friend says it has to be a reprint and after a lot of research I don't find any company that made reprints of the 1934 Goudey's. I did find reprints of the 1933 Goudey but you can tell those and they say so on the back. Can you tell me if I have a reprint or the real thing? when you e-mail me I will send you a scan of the front and back. I don't know how to attach it to this e-mail. Second a little background information…
This is a 96-card color set; the cards measure about 2 3/8" by 2 7/8". Card #s 1 through 48 are considered easier to find (except for #1, Foxx, which is very scarce in mint condition) and cards 73-96 are more difficult to find. Cards from this 1934 Goudey set are a little less available than cards from the 1933 Goudey set. Of these 96 cards, 84 contain a "Lou Gehrig Says" line on the front in a blue design, while 12 of the high series cards (#s 80 through 91) have a "Chuck Klein Says" line in a red design. These Chuck Klein cards indicated are in fact the 12 National Leaguers in the high series…I guess Lou Gehrig did not have much to say about them because he is an American leaguer.
Knowing this the following book values for your 1934 Goudey #61 Lou Gehrig are about $2,000 to $3,000. If you want to protect and increase the values have the card professionally graded, there are several companies that do this I personally use Beckett (http://www.beckett.com/grading/) but many others exist and are not bad...and not only will it protect and increase the value it is also the “BEST” way to authenticate what you have.
Always remember if you are looking to sell your card(s) or if you want to buy, these values are just a reference point developed by "average" secondary market sales...if you are a bottom line type of person your card(s) are really worth what you are willing to accept for them or what you are willing to pay.

QUESTION: I am going to try and attach an image for you to see but I have never done this before so I hope it works. Plus do you know of any reprints made of this card? People keep telling me it has to be a reprint. Why does it have to be I ask and nobody knows. I want to sell the card but I need to know that it isn't a reprint and I can't get an answer. Anyway I will try to attach now and if you don't get it email me through another system and I can attach the scans in my yahoo, I know how to do that.

If you really want to sell the card I highly suggest that you have this treasure "Professionally Graded" here are some reasons...
Increases Value - Compared to the secondary market prices of your favorite cards in raw and graded forms.
Preservation/Protection - Your graded cards are well-preserved in a unique, protective cardholder.
Authenticity - As part of the grading process, the company you choose authenticates your card.
Tamper Proof - Once a card has been graded and slabbed, the integrity of the card is protected from tampering.
