Square Foot/Intensive Gardening - no flowers on many plants

Expert: Jim Kennard - 8/4/2008

Question
This is my first attempt at gardening in Maine we have had a lot of rain lately and I was wondering if that could be the reason I have so few flowers on my vegetable plants the only ones that have flowers are the tomatoes and cucumbers  Thank you for any information Gloria

Answer
What vegetables are you growing?  Many don't produce flowers until later, when they are going to seed.

Rain shouldn't keep plants from producing flowers.  In the 4 months we spent in Colombia this past winter it rained long and hard 5 or 6 days per week almost the whole time, and our garden thrived, with blossoms everywhere.

Write back and tell me more specifics and I'll try to help figure out what's going on.
