Question
what and when to plant fall garden in alabama.

Answer
Lisa, the exact answer depends on your first frost date.  Although the average in Alabama is mid to late October, it varies by city.  Attached is a website that will specify the date based on your city.

Fall crops include lettuce, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, carrots, beets, and radishes.  Lettuce, spinach and beets should be planted 40 days prior to your first expected frost; carrots 50 days; radishes 25 days; and broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage 60 days prior.  Although these dates may vary slightly depending on the specific variety you are growing, they are the guidelines I have been using successfully for many years.

Attached is one more website with some recommended planting dates for the fall.

I hope this answered your question.  Please write again if I can ever be of assistance.
