Question I was recently sold DAP 1012 for using as a cement in leaded windows even though it "looks" different than the inland cement I have been using. After reading the label at home it specifically says to not use for stained glass. Do I need to return this product or is it OK to use. The store who sold it to me is a Stained Glass Supplier so I thought we could trust his products.
Thanks,
Jeff Gurr
Answer I use Dap window glazing compound on my leaded stained glass. Although I rarely do leaded glass as I prefer the Tiffany method (copper foil) And copper foil does not require the sealing that lead does. I cannot find my can of Dap so I don't know about the number 1012. I mix a little powdered cement into the Dap when I apply it to the pieces and that will "grey" up the Dap if you use the write Dap and it also absorbs some of the oil in the Dap and allows it to dry and not stay so soft and oily and gives you a harder seal. I don't know if the cement thing is better than not adding it, but that is the way I was taught 30 years ago, so I still do it. I use the powdered cement sprinkles on the window and a scrub brush to buff off any excess Dap and that also packs in a sealer of cement over the Dap. Works for me!
