Stained Glass - Appraisal of stained glass for resale

Expert: Sue Spire - 9/29/2009

Question
Hi, I have a stained glass window that is approx. 48" x 36". It was in a business that I purchased. We remodeled and have nowhere to put it, so we would like to sell it. Can you give me a ball park and also who I may contact to sell it? I have no idea how to begin. Thanks

Answer
Hi,

I'd say $1500 to $2000 would be a fair price to ask for the window. However, it could go for more or less depending on it's age and condition. From the picture, it looks like it's in good condition. I can't tell the age from the picture. I'd have to be able to see the window and examine the glass to get an idea of the age.

Find a stained glass retail shop in your area that does custom work. Have them give you an appraisal, then do the same with a reputable antique shop. The antique shop could possibly sell the window for you. Depending on where you live, there might be an auction house that deals in higher quality pieces. They could give you an appraisal and put the window up for auction.

Good luck with selling it. It's a beautiful window.
