Question Hi Stephen. My family and I just moved into a historic home with stained glass windows. The historical information guide that came with the home (small pamphlet, really) says that the windows "were constructed circa 1662-1664 by William Lyalds the Younger for a church on the outskirts of London." It goes on to say, "This section of windows was the only one in the church to survive the bombings of World War II," and, "Lyalds' work was not popular in his time because his windows depicted Biblical scenes using common people leading a simple, rural life."
I have done some research to find out more about Mr. Lyalds but can't seem to find anything. Do you know anything about him, and if not, can you give me some direction as to how to find out more?
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Annette
Answer Hi Annette, Thanks for writing. I am so sorry that I don't know anything about William Lyalds the Younger. And I've looked in all the reference books that we have here. What I will do is ask around, as we meet stained glass painters and historians and distinction. Would it be possible for you to e-mail us at the Williams & Byrne website with your own e-mail address IF you'd like me to write to you if/when we discover something? (I promise we won't use your e-mail address for anything else). All the best - Stephen
