Subject: Removing permanent marker from window blinds

Question
Our daughter drew on our window blinds with a red permanent marker.  Any tips for removing this?

Answer
Larry,
I assume the blind is fabric, not vinyl.  If it is vinyl or metal, let me know.  It is very difficult if not impossible to remove marker from fabric blinds.  You can try to put a very small amount of bleach on a q-tip and try a small spot.  Keep in mind that bleach does not stop working, so you have to watch it and have a damp towel ready.  If the spot starts to disappear, take the damp towel(not too wet) and dab the spot.  This will neutralize the bleach.  Keep in mind, this is a risky method.  I would only do this if you can't live with the spot.  Another thing to keep in mind is that red dye is dissolved by sunlight.  So if this is in a window that gets a lot of sun, the red will probably disappear eventually.  This can take a while though.  Hope this helps,
Todd
