Stains, Mopping, Wiping, Ironing, Cleaning - leather jacket

Expert: Bern - 10/26/2009

Question
I have recently bought a leather jacket that has a logo on the right upper chest side. it's about 3" long by 2" tall. It is sewn on. I was wondering if there was any way to remove it and if it was removed what could be done with all the holes that were left in the jacket from the threads?

Answer
Cleaning leather I have done but removing patches I have not.  BUT, it seems to me that unless the thread used to sew it on was huge the holes should not be the big issue.  What will be the big issue is the difference in color.  The leather under the patch had not been exposed to sun, rain soil etc.  THAT PART will look different.

IMO most leather looks better as it ages and is distressed so it could be no problem for you.  PERHAPS you could cut away the threads at the bottom of the logo patch and lift it up a little and that way you can examine the holes and the condition of the leather underneath.  A good cleaning and treatment with a water proofing or the like could very well even out the color.

Good luck and please let us all know how this works out.
