Stains, Mopping, Wiping, Ironing, Cleaning - Stain Removal from 100% Polyester Comforter

Expert: Bern - 4/14/2009

Question
I purchased a new comforter with 100% Polyester top and a polyester/cotton on the bottom. My children got food stains candy or hot chocolate on my  comforter. I tried using a little water to get out the stain but it left a water mark. I also tried Grandma Secret Spot Remover, The stain came out but it produced a water mark. The comforter says not to dry clean. I leery to put it in the washing machine for fear it will ruin it and the sewn on flower on the comforter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Carolyn

Answer
Keep in mind that if water alone caused this browning then ANYTHING you do to it could make it worse.

IF it were my customer I would advise them of THAT and then if they were willing to proceed do the following:

Use warm a gallon of warm water with a cup of white vinegar.  Adjust the formula for the size of the spot you have.  Using a white towel wet the towel and dab the stain.  Rubbing lightly is ok.  If this does not remove the browning it's possible it can't be removed.  At THAT point you may want to take it in to a professional cleaner to be examined.  Don't feel you have use ALL the water.  Use as little as necessary and dry it well and quickly.

Good luck.
