Stains, Mopping, Wiping, Ironing, Cleaning - cat urinated on my mattress

Expert: Bern - 4/13/2009

Question
How can I remove the stain and most importantly the odor caused by my cat peeing on my mattress?

Answer
MOST of the time you will not be able to remove the stain.  Well actually you may be able to remove the YELLOW stain and replace it with a brown one.

You will need to go to your vet or a store such as PETCO and get a urine neutralizing agent.  Tell them you are trying to get rid of the odor and they will know what you want.  You need to saturate the mattress so that the urine odor neutralizer goes as deep as the urine did.  After the neutralizer has been in the mattress as long as it's directions call for use a shop vac or some vac that is capable of removing water and remove as much as you can.  THEN let it dry.  If a stain remains and it bothers you try 20 volume peroxide on it by spraying lightly and letting it dry until the stain is lighted to an acceptable point.

KEEP IN MIND that the fabric on most mattresses was never intended to be cleaned and peroxide or any cleaner may fade the color and or design on it.
