Stains, Mopping, Wiping, Ironing, Cleaning - laminate floor

Expert: Bern - 4/27/2009

Question
I spilled red nail polish on my laminate flooring.  How can I remove the stain without harming the laminate?

Answer
Peggy:

The best way to remove nail polish is with nail polish remover, HOWEVER, you must be very very careful.  Work just on the surface and do not allow the polish remover to penetrate the wood. The easiest way to do that is to put the remover on a white towel and us that to apply the remover to the nail polish and gently wipe it. It WILL cause the laminate to separate if it penetrates to the glue that holds it together.

In fact before trying a chemical I'd try a very thin knife edge to try and scrape it up.

Good luck and keep us posted.
