Stains, Mopping, Wiping, Ironing, Cleaning - poly acrylic rug

Expert: Todd Malin - 4/11/2009

Question
What is the best way to clean a poly/acrylic rug? Both general cleaning and deep cleaning for spills ect.

Answer
Mari,

This rug can be cleaned like any other.  The only thing you have to be careful of is not to leave any soap residue in the carpet.  Whatever you use, make sure it is rinsed completely from the carpet, because these rugs will attract dirt very easily if any soap is left in them.  For spots, always try plain water first.  If that doesn't work, you can add a couple drops of liquid non bleaching laundry detergent to the water.  Use a spray bottle if you can.  Then just make sure you rinse it out with water.  For overall cleaning use a neutral PH detergent, and when you're done, rinse with plain water.
