Stains, Mopping, Wiping, Ironing, Cleaning - Removal of white-out off of brass.

Expert: Todd Malin - 6/26/2009

Question
What solvent would be best to remove white-out from an expensive brass bust statue that wouldn't harm the brass or change the color of it etc.?

Answer
I got your second question.  Is there any way for you to very carefully try to scrape the white out with a razor blade.  Solvents are almost always harmful to bronze.  If there is a place you can test it, try that.  I would try acetone, just because it dries very fast and you don't want the solvent sitting on the bronze any longer than it needs to.  But again, test it first or try to scrape it off very carefully.
