Stains, Mopping, Wiping, Ironing, Cleaning - Stains on vinyl flooring caused by wheels on furniture

Expert: Bern - 8/29/2009

Question
QUESTION: I have a Beaumont kitchen cart that can move on wheels that I purchased 1 year ago. While cleaning I moved the cart and there are yellow drops on my vinyl tile. I couldn't believe they came from the cart so I moved to a new location and now 3 or 4 drops around each wheel.  How can I remove. They appear permanent and of course in the middle of my kitchen floor.

Thanks!

ANSWER: Do you know what the stains are?  Is it oil from the wheels or something else?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: My husband says it must be oil from wheels since there is nothing else that could drip. We put it together originally and never noticed that the wheels had any oil on them. They are bright yellow drops and are not wet to touch. Tried all the regular cleaning products.

Answer
You will need something that will dissolve the oil.  Try WD-40 if that doesn't remove it try paint thinner.  KEEP IN MIND that anything you do could be harmful to the vinyl tile so try it in an inconspicuous location first.  IF neither of these remove it try chlorine laundry bleach.  This may be something that cannot be removed.  GOOD LUCK and let us know what happens.
