Stains, Mopping, Wiping, Ironing, Cleaning - Wet black leather wallet stained cream carpet

Expert: Todd Malin - 8/20/2009

Question
G'day from AustraliaI Todd,

hHad a bit of a surf around the site but couldn't find a similar issue: I was wondering if you can help me with a stain on our cream woolen carpet, from a wet black leather wallet which was left overnight?

Kind regards,
Christie

Answer
Christie,

If the dye came off the wallet, you probably won't be able to get it out.
Here's something to try.  Take a spray bottle and put a few drops of non-bleaching liquid laundry detergent and fill the rest with warm water.  Shake it well.  Spray the area with the solution.  Agitate the spot with your hand.  Put a white towel over the spot and stand on it.  Make sure you don't rub the spot only blot or stand on the towel.  Check the towel to see if any of the black is on the towel. If nothing is on the towel, it means the spot is dyed and there's nothing you can do except to patch the carpet.  If some black does come off, keep repeating until you get out as much as you can.  Make sure you're getting the spot as dry as you can each time you repeat this.

Good, luck

Todd
