Stains, Mopping, Wiping, Ironing, Cleaning - yellow plastic sheeting

Expert: Bern - 8/18/2009

Question
So i am a builder at heart i made myself this greenhouse out of wood and plastic sheeting about 5 mil thick and rigid; It was clear when i put it up but now i has green mildew and a yellow hue.I know i could use hydrogen peroxide to clean it but that would make me go broke buying enough .I was wondering if maybe you knew a way to clean it fast and cheap well keeping in mind it about 60sq ft of plastic.   Thank you Alissa

Answer
Alissa,

This is really beyond my expertise but I am answering hoping you will experiment and let me know what works.

The yellow hue is probably due to sun degradation of the plastic.  If that is true I don't think you can get rid of that.  As for the green growth on it this is likely mold or moss of some kind and THAT should be cleanable with a solution of 10-50% bleach.  In my experience 50% is the maximum mix.  After that you don't get much difference until you go to pure bleach.

Good luck and please let us know what works.
