Stains, Mopping, Wiping, Ironing, Cleaning - Haircolor stain

Expert: Todd Malin - 9/16/2009

Question
Hi, my daughter got black haircolor on my exspensive yellow wool rug. I don't believe there is anything that can remove it but wanted to ask. Any suggestions?

Answer
Kelly,

You're right there's not much you can do.  Dye and wool is a bad combination.  There are a couple things to do though.  Put some white vinegar on a towel and dab the spot (don't soak it) and leave it.  If the room gets any sun, the vinegar and sun will act as very mild bleach that won't hurt the rug.  You can do this every couple days or weeks.  It takes a long time, but over time the spot will improve.

Todd
