Stains, Mopping, Wiping, Ironing, Cleaning - How to get a towel imprint out of the finish on my dining room table?

Expert: Todd Malin - 9/15/2009

Question
I set a hot pot on top of a folded towel on my dining room table.  When I tried to remove the towel, it was stuck to the table.  And when I got it off, it left behind an imprint in the wood finish where it's duller and you can see the texture of the towel.  I'm panicking because this table is not mine.  What can I do?

Answer
Gina,

I wish I had a good answer for you, but generally the only way to remove something like that is to refinish the table.  The texture of the towel was probably melted into the wood.  The only other thing you can try is wax, but it probably won't work.

Todd
