About Mark Leon
Expertise
I am a collector of United States postage stamps, and also a stamp dealer. I`m a member of the American Philatelic Society (APS). My principle area of interest and expertise is in United States Stamps.

Experience
I've been selling stamps on the internet since early 1996. I maintain a stamp web page that concentrates on mint US stamps issued generally between 1890 and 2004. I'm an active seller on ebay.com since 1996, under the user id "mleon". I have a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, 1984. You can find my web page at http://www.forwardedge.com/usmints.html

Stamps (Philately) - miscut sheet of stamps

Expert: Mark Leon - 11/5/2009

Question
i have a sheet of .39 cent DC comics super hero stamps that were cut wrong.  On some of them if you went to use the stamp only the 3 would show, the 9 would be cut off.  i have been told there is a possibility that this is worth money, can you give me some idea?
Thank you

Answer
April,

Yes, you could possibly have something of decent value.  Miscut errors such as you describe are sought by Error, Freak and Oddity (EFO) collectors.  The market for error stamps, however, is highly speculative.  In general, the more dramatic the error, the more an EFO collector is willing to pay to get it.

I recommend you contact Harmer-Schau Auction Galleries for an opinion.  A public stamp auction should be seriously considered if you decide to sell, because both dealers and collectors bid for the same stamps.  Contact Chris Harmer or Kurt Schau at:

Phone: 800-378-6454

You could mention that Mark Leon referred you.

Good luck!
