Stamps (Philately)/Fancy Cancel

Question
Greetings,
I have a cover with a fleur de lis (neg) cancel. Postmark is a circle Westport Ct. The date is Oct. 20 with an unreadable two digit year. The stamp is a Scott 147. I cannot find any reference to this cancel or have I seen another.

Any information would be great.

Thank you

Answer
Hi Stephen,

I do not ever recall seeing a 19th century fancy cancel in the design of a Fleur de lis, nor is such a cancel listed in the standard books that specialize in 19th C. Fancies.  Can you post a scan of the item? I am wondering if it may not be a fleur de lis, but rather something similar? If you can not post a scan, we likely can not be of any further help.  Sorry.

Bill
