Question
Hi Mark,
I have a blue 50 cent U.S. Inter Revenue stamp, measuring 2.25" high x 7/8" wide.  There are lots of similar ones on the internet, but mine has washington looking to the right as a black and white image in a white circle.  Any ides where I can check its value?
Thanks,
Richard

Answer
Richard,

The stamp you describe is Scott number R115, a revenue issue from 1871.  The stamp is valued between 30 cents and $1.25 depending on condition.  You can look up the value of all your US stamps at your local library.  Ask at the reference desk for the Scott Specialized Catalog of United States Stamps and Covers.  There you will find photographs and current values for every United States stamp ever issued, sorted by date of issue.
