Stamps (Philately)/Franklin Roosevelt Stamp mistake

Question
Hi,

I just found a book of Franklin Roosevelt 6 Cent Stamps and on one page of them they are miscut so that there is a Roosevelt and a 1/4 on one stamp and abou5 3/4 of Roosevelt on the other stamps.

Is this typical? Are these stamps worth keeping? They were among a few items that my grandfather has put away in a box of other important items.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Ryanne,

Thanks for the question,

Ryanne, it sounds like what you have is a booklet of stamps with one miscut pane in it. Although these are not that common, they are really not that hard to find. The catalog # for the stamp itself is #1284, but because there are a few different booklets with this stamp in it, I cannot give an exact catalog # for the complete booklet. The Individual pane can either be Cat# 1284b (pane of 8 stamps), 1284c (pane of 5 stamps plus a label) or 1284e (similar to 1284b but with no tagging). Tagging is used by the cancelling and sorting equipment of the USPS and can only be seen under shortwave Ultraviolet light.  This might be of interest to an EFO collector (Errors, freaks and oddities) or a booklet collector. From your description of the amount of the miscut I would value this in the $3-$7 range, if you could determine it was the #1284e no tagging error it might bring it up to the $10-$20 range. Sorry I wish I had better news.
