Question
I would like to sell a sheet (50) of mint 2c Columbian stamps on eBay. The sheet is mounted on the back of a 12 in X 9 in cardboard picture of the Santa Maria. My great grandparents attended the Exposition and I am guessing they bought this as a souvenir. The stamps are in very good condition. Can you give me a general idea of how much I should ask at auction?

Answer
Susan,

Your sheet of Scott number 231 could be worth in the $2,000 range, but it all depends on condition.  If the sheet is stuck-down to the back of the cardboard picture, the value drops considerably - perhaps to the $300 range.  If there is damage to any of the stamps, selvage, or separation of perforations, then the value drops further.

Good luck!
