Question
Can you tell me if First Day cover envelopes, especially oversize ones that have either 3-d images or Holograms have any real value as far as future interest to collectors. Many are offered at very high prices and poor quality (yellowing ) but many are quite attractive. Also on the subject of toning or as I prefer the term tea stain. How much toning is acceptable on a postal item.

Answer
Hi Brian,

FDCs have a small following amongst philatelists, the 3D/hologram group is smaller still.  There are many FDC collectors (accumulators), however their return-on-investment is rather poor. The key is that you enjoy your collecting.  Condition is always very important. Modern covers (post WWII) are expected to be pristine.  Toning of early tropical covers is common esp. from the Indian sub continent, however toning will affect the value.
