Question
If Species 8472 had its arms tightly around Data (as though it were giving him a bear hug), and Data's arms were straight along his body, how long do you think it would take Data to free himself?

Data vs. 10 Breen (no weapons). To win, each Breen must get knocked down 5 times (50 total times); Data must get knocked down only 5 times.

When each Breen gets knocked down 5 times, they are eliminated and may no longer fight.

Who wins?

10 Breen vs. 10 Hirogen (no weapons)

Who wins?

Answer
Hi John -

I think it would take Data a while to free himself as he wouldn't have much leverage to work with.  Even if he and Species 8472 were the same level of strength, he would eventually work his way free because he doesn't tire and can exert a consistent level of strength in a way that biological muscles cannot.  At a guess I would say he could get free in under a minute.

Against the Breen Data's advantage would be his considerable speed. I think he could knock down five or six Breen before they even knew what hit them because he can move so quickly.  Also, Data's legs are much stronger than a human being's and humans can often lift three to four times their own weight with their legs.  With that in mind, if Data were properly braced and/or standing fast, it would be very difficult for even six or seven Breen to knock him down.

It was mentioned from various episodes in Deep Space Nine that the Breen come from a world so cold that they don't even have blood.  Typically animals (and some people) who live in colder climates are not very fast as they use a good portion of their muscle mass generating heat to stay alive. (There are execptions of course).

The Breen are also physically smaller than the Hirogen so, based purely on those speculations, I would say they wouldn't give the Hirogen much trouble.  Hirogen are bred and trained from birth to be hunters and go in for the kill, and the Breen (I don't think) can compete with that.

Hope that helps.

Deran
