Question If the Dyson Sphere doors did close on Odo, do you think he'd die, or would his two parts somehow be able to rejoin?
Would Nagilum die (assuming he didn't try to move)?
I have a problem with this because Nagilum is quite possibly an energy creature, or part energy/part solid. But I was wondering what you thought.
In Best of Both Worlds, the Borg destroy a shuttlecraft by attaching a tractor beam to it. If Data were floating in space, and the Borg attached their tractor beam to him, would he simply explode?
A while ago you stated that the augments from DS9 and Cytherians (at least one of these groups) could absorb information (from reading) as quickly as Data, but 'could not turn the pages as fast.'
Can you explain 'could not turn the pages as fast?' I realize that Data is a speed-reader, but when Data turns the pages fast he is absorbing the information as well, so if the Cytherians can absorb the information equally fast, shouldn't they also turn the pages at the same rate?
Answer Hi John -
I seem to recall that Odo can 'separate' himself when in his natural (liquid) form and reintegrate the pieces.
Assuming Nagilum didn't attempted to move or phase himself into another dimension, I think the force of the door closing could cause him some minor irritation, but I agree with you in that his biological make-up must consist (at least in some part) of energy, which would remain unaffected.
I'm not sure but the explosion might have resulted from the shuttlecraft using its engines to fight the effects of the tractor beam. I can't think of a reason Data would explode as all the tractor beam exerts is force, not heat or any other explosive energy.
The Cytherians and the Augments could read information on the page of a book and absorb that information at roughly the same speed as Data. However, the android could move his arm at speeds the Cytherians and Augments are not capable of, turn the page, read/memorize it, and go on to another page before the others could even read halfway down. The distinction is a physical one, rather than mental one.
