Subject: Crystalline Entity
Question Can the side of the Edo god which is in 'our' dimension suffer damage? For example, if the Crystalline Entity came by and struck the side of the Edo god that was in the Entity's dimension, could that part of the god 'die?'
Or would the exposed part survive, because its essence spans multiple dimensions?
If the Crystalline Entity and the Krenim time ship met, and their respective beams struck each other simultaneously, what would happen?
You stated a little while ago that the Organians could escape the Crystalline Entity by adjusting the energy signature of their matrix. I agree that that is an option they could pursue. However, wouldn't the Organians be safe if the Entity simply wasn't strong enough to absorb them?
For example, Data (and humans) don't fear dying from phaser hits that are set on stun. This is because they know their bodies can absorb the impact. I believe the same is true for the Organians, Douwd, Q, etc. While I'm not sure if the Organians and Douwd could be killed outright by the Entity, I know (based on other evidence) that Q could not be, and I can only assume this is based on his matrix being strong enough to absorb the Entity's beam.
One last question: Assuming Data knew nothing about sports, how long do you think it would take him to acquire Hall of Fame skills?
If he practiced each modern sport for, say, 5 hours each, would he be much better than Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, or any other star who has ever lived?
Or would he require more time to practice and learn each sport?
Sorry for all the questions!
Answer Hey John -
Ask as many questions as you like, yours are always so thought provoking and force me to think in directions I haven’t before!
Okay Question #1 - I do believe that whatever 'part' the Edo God had 'sticking' in our dimension could be damaged. It would be like smashing a window on a car. The window would be destroyed, but the car would still operate. The 'exposed' part would be wrecked, but it wouldn't really affect the entire Edo God to a large degree.
Question #2 - If the beams from both entities struck one another they would probably cause mutual disruption. The electro-magnetic energy in the Entity's beam would disrupt the chronometric radiation that powers the Krenim beam and they would destroy each other. It would be similar to matter and anti-matter colliding.
Question #3 - You are correct, if the Entity simply didn't have the strength to absorb the Organians, they would have nothing to fear from it. It would be like them getting stung by a bee (or shot with a stun setting) in that they might be mildly annoyed, but not under any real threat.
Question #4 - I think that Data could acquire top level sports skills within a matter of 24 to 48 hours. Given his physical capacity to exactly replicate his actions over and over, he could hit home run after home run each time by using his artificial musculature and ability to judge speed, distance and the angle of deflection of any baseball pitched at him.
Of course even Data could not plan for every eventuality, but we know that he was observant enough to recognize the blinking pattern of Julia Tainer so I am guessing from that that his observational skills are vastly superior to that of a normal humanoid. Using his advanced senses and his capacity to compute quickly, he could easily figure out the optimum angle at which to hit a baseball to generate a home run. What's more, he could execute minute changes in his musculature, stance and the strength with which he hits the ball to generate that affect.
Because of those facts I think he could learn golf, basketball and baseball very easily. Swimming might prove slightly more difficult until he acclimated to the ambient water conditions he was in and learned to adjust his buoyancy. We saw him do this in Star Trek: Insurrection within a matter of seconds.
Hope that helps
Deran
