ANSWER: Hi John -

I do remember Sliders!

A)  Armuses - I think the Armuses would easily overwhelm Apollo, even thousands of them/him.

B)  Ocampans - Sure, especially if they were practiced with their abilities as Kes was.

C)  Nomads - Absolutely, Apollo(s) wouldn't stand a chance!

D)  Darmok - I think most of them would go down in a fight and that maybe only one or two Apollos would suffer.

E)  Datas - That would be a great fight!  My guess is that the speed of the Data's would give them an advantage and, though some of them might go down, I think they would eventually win.

F)  Lals - Given her apparent lack of combat training and general lack of a 'killer instinct' I think Apollo could take down 1,000 Lals.

G)  Tin Mans - That would be a pretty extended struggle and most members of both sides would get wiped out.  In the end it would come down to a handful of survivors and then whoever got lucky would win.

H)  Wolverines - Wolverine is just so difficult to kill and willing to go to nearly any length to get an opponent so, though a lot of his team would be sacrificed, I think he'd be the last one standing.

I)  Zalkonians - My guess is that 1,000 of them would eventually wipe out Apollo though the fight would cause galaxies to shudder.

J)  Calmarains - given their massive levels of power, I'd bet they would win in the end.

K)  Mitchells - Since Mitchell still thought like a 'human' I'd think Apollo might have an advantage.  Also I think something inside Gary might have been fighting what he was becoming, whereas Apollo reveled in it.

L)  Organians - If those guys could affect starships and starbases throughout a quadrant (specifically Klingon and Federation) while leaving everyone else (like the Cardassians) alone, then I'd put my money on them even against 1,000 Apollos.

M)  Metrons - I think it would be a struggle, but in the end the Metrons would triumph.

N)  Salt Vampires - Wow, I guess I'd give Apollo the advantage there but several of his clones would be lost in the struggle.

O)  Batmans - Batman has successfully taken on Darkseid, Superman, Green Lantern and come out on top so I'd put my money on him.

P)  Borg - Given Apollo's ability to manipulate energy I'd say he'd have the advantage in that type of fight.  It would be close, especially if the Borg were able to assimilate some of his clones, but I think he'd win.

Q)  8472 - I'd bet that would be a good fight but 8472 seemed slightly more ruthless and I'd bet a few of them would be left standing.

R)  Cytherians - I think they'd wipe the floor with Apollo(s)

S)  Douwd - as powerful as he is, I'd have to go with the Douwd.

T)  Danar - Man that's a tough one.  My gut reaction is to say Apollo would win but 1,000 Danars would be a formidable army indeed.

U)  Changelings - I'd give the advantage to the Changelings.  All one or two would have to would be to transform into mist and enter an Apollo's lungs and then resume their normal shape.  It's be messy, but bye, bye Apollo.

Of the ones you list I'd like to see 8472 and the Changelings get after each other.

I'd say Spock had better mental abilities.  Deanna really didn't tell Picard (or the audience) anything we didn't already know ("He's definitely holding something back Captain"  Well, duh, even I could tell you that).  Spock could often extract information as he did with Lieutenant Valeris in ST: The Undiscovered Country.

Between Lwaxana and Spock I'd say Lwaxana because her telepathy seemed near absolute and she didn't need to have physical contact to make it work.

No Weapons fight - Spock.  Sarek was an ambassador and diplomat whose career was built on understanding and diplomacy.  Spock was a trained Starfleet officer whose 'human streak' may have made him more comfortable with violence than a pure Vulcan.

Lwaxana wasn't at all sure of herself, merely arrogant and used bravado and emotional 'smothering' to get what she wanted.  Guinan was very sure of herself, comfortable in her own skin, and not at all threatened by the ideas and feelings of others.

I think Homm might step in and/or trip Data or use some other tactic to get Ms. Troi out of harms way.  Otherwise he'd lose his meal ticket.

No Weapons Fight - I think Yar probably has more martial arts and weapon's training, but Riker has the tactical skills and intelligence to out smart her in a fight.

My guess is that Data doesn't rely exclusively on visual information the way we humans do.  I would think he could interpret minute temperature changes through his skin to determine an enemy's location, use his sense of smell, hearing and touch to locate and disable the enemy without needing to see at all.

Given his greater speed I'd still put the advantage to him and he could get his arm ripped off and keep fighting whereas a Gorn probably could not.

Thanks!

Deran

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Actually, I meant which of the Star Trek characters would you like to see battle the 1001 Apollos? I should have been clearer in my question.

But it would be interesting to see the changelings and 8472s battle. Which would you take between the changelings and 8472s?

Apollo is tough to gauge because he does have his temple. I don't disagree with your answers, though. I think before we agreed that Apollo was stronger than Armus, because Apollo was shown to hold the Enterprise in place, whereas Armus apparently didn't have that level of power. But I think Armus would defeat Apollo because Apollo is basically human, whereas Apollo's energy attacks wouldn't affect Armus that much. Maybe a little, but not enough.

We also agreed that it'd be tough for Data to defeat Apollo one-on-one, again because of the temple. However, Apollo was shown to tire in the episode, and it'd be tough to put down the androids permanently. Also, they could probably spread out and avoid Apollo's energy blasts better than most non-artificials could.

Would you agree with what I have written?

If a changeling did enter Apollo's lungs, could Apollo eject them using concentrated energy, or would that be beyond his abilities? Also could he reverse an assimilation (either the one being assimilated or his fellow)?

1001 Wolverines vs. 1001 Keses

1001 Batmans vs. 1001 8472s

1001 Armuses vs. 1001 changelings

1001 Calamarains vs. 1001 Zalkonians

Batman vs. Wolverine

When Data tried to escape from Kivas, he found the door to not budge. Kivas stated that maybe 10 androids just like Data would be able to force the door open. How many of the following would be required to open the door?

A) Rikers
B) Picards
C) Siskos
D) Kiras
E) LaForges
F) Harry Mudds
G) Nausicaans

Ok, if you're familiar with Sliders, did the "real" Professor Arturo make the slide, or was it his doppleganger from "Post Traumatic Slide Syndrome?"

Answer
Hi John -

I'd like to see either the Borg Collective or 8472 knock it out with the Apollos.

I'd probably go with the 8472 because, even if the Changelings did get nasty and use their shapeshifting powers to say, invade the Species lungs or something, their immune systems should be able to deal with that.

Yep, I agree completely with what you wrote.  Armus is something entirely alien and 1,000 of them would be nearly impossible to contain.  Also Apollo might be able to exhale the Changelings depending on how tired he was and the extent to which his abilities were drained.

Given Kes' ability to control matter at the subatomic level, though it pains me, I think she would defeat Wolverine.

As formidable as 8472 is, I'd have to think 1,001 Batmans would be able to figure something out to defeat them.

I also think Armus could defeat the Changelings, maybe even while 750 of his brethren sit on the sidelines.

The Calamarain/Zalkonian thing is hard to judge since both are very powerful entities!

The Batman/Wolverine thing is hard to judge given the backgrounds and skills of both individuals.  If I had to put money on one or the other I'd say Batman because he is just so intelligent.  Not that Wolverine isn't but if forced to make a choice I'd go with Bats.

Well if ten Data's couldn't force the door open I think it would take:

500 Rikers
750 Picards
500 Siskos
622 Kiras
623 Geordis
900 Mudds
and 425 Nausicans

Actually I saw the first season of Sliders many years ago and don't remember the episode you are referring to.  Apparently there are no Slider experts on AllExperts either so I don't have anyone to refer you to!

Arrrgh!  I hate when I can't answer a question!  Got any Battlestar Galactica questions?  Or comic book questions? Terminator?

Ordinarily I could refer you to a Sliders expert but apparently the have all fled the building???
