Star Trek: The Next Generation - Kelvans

Expert: Deran McKean - 6/24/2009

Question
If the Kelvans did 'dice' one of the Apollos in the 1001-Apollo scenario, could one of the other Apollos "reform" their distilled friend using their energy, or no?

Also, if Apollo were paralyzed by the Kelvans, could he restore himself using his energy, or would he be unable to (due to being paralyzed)?

I take it the Kelvans could not distill or paralyze an energy being, right? I think that would be beyond their capabilities.

Better musician?
A) Uhura (singing)
B) Riker (trombone)

A) Hologram Doc (singing)
B) Data (violin)

A) Trelane/Uhura (Trelane giving her the piano-playing ability)
B) Q (trumpet)

Could Data roll a bowling ball so fast/hard down the lane that it shattered all 10 pins?

Besides Q, Paxans, Calamarain, and the Holo Doc, what energy beings were shown in deep space? Nagilum isn't counted because he didn't register as energy. I don't remember if John Doe (Zalkonian) left the ship and went into deep space after he became energy, and Kes may have done the same thing when she became energy. (If you don't remember, the Holo Doc was accidentally beamed into space in a Voyager episode.) Do you recall any other energy beings being seen in deep space?

Answer
Hi John -

My guess is that one of the other Apollo's could reform their distilled friend using their ability to manipulate energy.

Also I don't see why the paralysis field should affect his energy manipulation abilities.  My guess is those powers come from his mind and are somewhat autonomic.  We know when an individual is paralyzed that their heart still beats, their lungs still inflate and their various other organs still perform their functions so my guess is that the field only affects musculature.  If that is the case Apollo should still be able to manipulate energy through the extra organ in his chest.

I agree that it should be beyond the abilities of the Kelvans to distill an energy being.  Distilling matter is something relatively easy since matter can be broken down into its component parts (we can even do it in the 21st century) but affecting energy takes specific wavelengths and levels of 'counter energy'.

Better Musician -

Wow that's hard to assess, my guess would be Uhura because I doubt Riker has as much time as she does to practice being the first officer of the Enterprise and later Captain of the Titan and we all know that practice makes perfect!

My other guess is that the Doc is probably a better singer since he should, in theory, be able to alter his voice to sing at all levels (Soprano, Baritone etc.) whereas Data's violin playing ability would be limited by the capabilities of the instrument.

Since Q is supposedly omnipotent I gotta belive he would be the better musician than Trelane/Uhura.

I think Data could shatter all ten pins and his unique sensory abilities would allow him to know the optimal point to hit the pins to accomplish just that.

I think you're right and that John Doe took off into space after he evolved.  Hmmmmm, the Metrons probably exist somewhere in deep space though this is never explicitly stated.  According to the distance at which the wormhole is located we can surmise that the Prophets exist in deep space.

Other than that I think you covered it!

Thanks!
