QuestionDo you feel that some episodes of The Next Generation were anit-
climactic? Such as Redemption(Part II), Best of Both Worlds(Part II)
and some others.
Thank You
AnswerHi Matt,
Do you mean all of the two parters or just some of the ordinary episodes as well?
Anti-climatic in what way? Did you find the resolution unsatisfactory, they won too easy? etc.
'The Best of Both Worlds Part 2' was a good episode, especially where it catches up to the battle site to find it is now a drifting graveyard where the Borg ship just tore through. However considering it did all that damage it does seem a bit too easy when the Enterprise does destroy it.
It was good that they chose not to ignore what Picard had gone through by dealing with it in the follow-up episode 'Family.' In that respect it doesn't seem anti-climatic as it was hard, devastating and traumatic to the character.
'Redemption part 2' was letdown by the fact that despite all the twists and turns we always knew that the Klingons with the Federation support would win. So its a bit predictable but entertaining nonetheless.
One second part of a two parter that was disappointing was Season six's 'Time's arrow part 2.' It was far too slow and it lost the tension created in the first one with the mystery as to how Data would die and the Guinan storyline.
I do think that 'Gambit' has to be one of the best two parters. It was exciting from start to finish with a good dose of humour thrown in as well.
I think that the problem with some episodes is that we are built up for something and especially with two-parters we imagine what's going to happen next. Usually our imagination does a better job because it is exactly how we would want it to end.
Hope that helped, please reply back if you want to discuss more points. Thank you for your question, H Louise.
